The Shape of Things

An intimate play about love and manipulation

The Shape of Things follows Adam, a shy college student whose life changes after meeting Evelyn, a confident and unconventional art student. As their relationship deepens, Evelyn challenges Adam to question his appearance, values, and sense of self through their connection, and the tension it creates with his friends.

The story is a dark, emotionally charged exploration of how far people will go for love and approval, and how art can blur the line between creation and cruelty.

Reveille Productions' The Shape of Things by Neil LaBute features Konstantinos Ntrekos as Adam and Luisa van Elise as Evelyn, with Ada Ozturk as Jenny and Casper Ootjers as Phillip. The alternate cast brings Mauricio Mattos as Adam, Elizabeth Salas as Evelyn, and Sofiia Pechynska as Jenny, with Casper Ootjers reprising his role as Phillip across both casts.

The Shape of Things premiered in 2001 at London’s Almeida Theatre, written and directed by Neil LaBute. It’s a four-character drama set in a college town, exploring love, beauty, and manipulation through sharp, intimate dialogue. The minimalist staging keeps focus on the moral tension between art and human relationships.

The Play (2001)
The Film (2003)

LaBute adapted and directed the 2003 film version with the original cast — Rachel Weisz, Paul Rudd, Gretchen Mol, and Frederick Weller. Shot at Pomona College, it closely follows the play’s script while using the screen’s realism to heighten its emotional impact and themes of transformation and control.
